Democratizing Access to Education is more than the theme of Big Ideas Fest 2018, it is also a call to action to ensure that all students have: access to information and knowledge, basic needs necessary to thrive as learners, and an affordable and equitable path forward.
Since its inception a decade ago, the centerpiece of ISKME’s Big Ideas Fest has been about taking action. Our vision has always been to break through the comfort zone of typical education conferences—with the goal of creating a space to empower educators, catalyze collaboration, spur innovation, and create transformative education outcomes together.
Democratizing Access to Education is the driving force for those who have a commitment to education equality and inclusion. As such, Big Ideas Fest is an opportunity to spend three days with colleagues across formal and informal education in a professional learning environment that brings together K-20 educators, administrators, researchers, policymakers, education entrepreneurs, students and philanthropists who are equally passionate about leading change.
As communities everywhere rally to resist an unsettling new era of backlash against tolerance, equal rights for all, truth-seeking, and freedom of expression, we are headed to the nation’s capital to do just that – our way. Sometimes people make protest signs. Other times they head to Capitol Hill to talk policy. At Big Ideas Fest 2018, we’ll start with rapid fire talks, design thinking, collaborative prototyping, and rigorous problem-solving with peers to generate ideas and solutions that will work in today’s environment where so many feel powerless to bring about change. As educators dedicated to lifting up and empowering others—this is the time to work together to truly make education more equitable, human, and student-focused.
If you believe you have a role to play in building bridges between diverse and often unequal learning environments, please join us to take collaborative action—BIF-style. Registration is capped at 180 participants, so act quickly to secure your spot.
Big Ideas Fest will take place in Washington, D.C. November 29- December 2, 2018, co-hosted by American University, Washington College of Law and Creative Commons USA.
